ToddletAthlone Castle Medieval Fayre is an exciting and unique living history experience, which will feature arts, crafts, food, games, educational demonstrations, and market stalls. Through collaboration with the Society for Creative Anachronism and living history merchants and facilitators, visitors will get an opportunity to step back in time and experience a busy medieval fair in action.
There will be live demonstrations of medieval crafts, fencing, archery, and weaponry, and the opportunity for the visitor to challenge themselves with some medieval games, as well as learning about the dress and customs of our medieval ancestors.
Visitors can explore the market stalls and see fine examples of handcrafted products, while also trying some tasty food treats from Athlone and the surrounding area.
Medieval Fayre Visitors will get an opportunity to step back in time and experience live demonstrations of fencing and Medieval weapons, taste samples of Medieval food treats challenge themselves with some Medieval games as well as learning about the dress and customs of our Medieval ancestors. In the Kids’ Kingdom, there will be fun hands-on activities, face painting, games, a puppet show, and hobby horse jousting. There will be a competition and prize each day for the best-dressed boy and girl, so don’t forget to wear your best medieval costumes!
The Medieval Fair will be located in the courtyard and upper battlements of Athlone Castle and will be open on both Saturday, August 31 and Sunday, September 1, from 12pm to 5pm. You can book your Saturday Ticket here (and your Sunday Ticket elsewhere on the website)

Driving directions to Athlone
Athlone is on the M6 motorway which runs (together with the M4) from Dublin to Galway. Athlone is only 1 hour and 20 minutes drive from Dublin airport, and Galway is just an hour away.
The most direct exit is Exit 11 for the town centre, and continue toward Northgate Street, take a right at the traffic lights and cross the bridge, you can’t miss the Castle.
